# Instead: Stop Scrolling

> Instead is an iPhone app (Android planned) that locks the apps you pick, like TikTok or Instagram, until you do one quick real-world activity. Doing it opens them for 15 minutes. It is coming soon to the App Store and Google Play. Made by Sulphanic LLC, New Jersey, USA.

How it works:

- You pick the apps that pull you in. Instead locks them with Apple's Screen Time tools.
- To open them, you do one small thing instead of scrolling, usually 1 to 5 minutes: a short walk counted in steps, a timer (for example 10 squats or tidying one surface), or a photo of something real, such as a tree, a flower, a pet, a person or the sky.
- The phone checks the activity itself: steps with the motion sensor, photos with Apple's on-device image recognition. Then the apps open for 15 minutes and lock again.
- A short quiz builds a named plan around what you want more of (mornings, focus, sleep, people, making things, time outside).
- You can lock apps all the time or after a daily time limit. If you can't do an activity right now, you can wait it out or spend Rays, the app's in-app currency.
- Instead Pro is an optional subscription (monthly or yearly), and Rays can also be bought, both through the App Store.
- The app is available in English, Arabic, German, Turkish, Spanish, French, Brazilian Portuguese and Japanese.

Privacy, in short:

- No ads, no tracking, and no selling or sharing of personal information.
- The apps you lock, photos, steps and Screen Time data stay on the phone.
- An account (Sign in with Apple) is optional and only backs up progress. It can be deleted from the app.
